The French furniture style of Louis XV flourished between 1730-1775. It pays homage to the feminine form with its use of curves; the legs are curved, the back is curved and the seats are curved. The style is characterized by the elaorate decorative carving.
Louis SV is often calle the rococo style. "Rococo" is derived from the French word for stone "rocaille" and shells "Coquilles" as these are often motifs in the carving. Furniture this period could be easily moved around for gatherings.
