Richard's father was apprenticed in England in 1922 to a cabinet maker, himself apprenticed in 1858. He came to Williamsburg, Virgina in 1957 where his father did restoration work on furniture for the Colonial Williamsurg Foundation.
His work still requires the use of hand tools almost exclusively and most of his antique tools were used in his miniature making.
He made furniture and silver.
